This isn’t TI’s first time round the projector world, most of the DLP TV’s and projectors you see these days have a chip from TI in them. The fact is though, it is kind of surprising seeing TI be the first with a full on mobile phone/pico-projector combo.
The current model uses a laser as the light source and it appears to work pretty well, but they are hoping to move to LEDs with future models. I am truly impressed, the issue that will come about though, is that mobile phones already have considerably shortened battery lives, how are they going to power a projector too? Once they figure that one out they will just have to start outfitting more mobiles with more storage so this technology can be easily and effectively put to use.

Dynamic display: A Unipixel display consists of a glass or plastic back panel into which red, green, and blue LEDs shine from the edge. A thin membrane is placed on top of the panel, with an air gap between the two. To turn the pixels on, and thereby emit light from the surface, the membrane contacts the back panel (top). The membrane consists of microscopic structures that direct light from the back panel to the viewer
CUin5 mobile phone is inspired by the big firm’s designs of a ‘super-practical’ interface with the all-too-typical feature set. Every face of the phone carries a keypad, microphone, and speaker. The part you touch first gets active while all other edges are in lock mode.

First and foremost, Brix is a phone. The entire surface is a touchscreen, even void of a receiver. There is no bezel at all so you really get 100% screen real estate on the front. You have all your personal multimedia functions just like any other phone but here’s where it gets interesting. By stringing together multiple Brix, you expand the screen real estate. Suddenly video is bigger. A temporary virtual shared folder is created to merge content between the devices until they’re disconnected or one device can be designated as the media hub and interface. The awesome thing is the ability to endlessly string together as many Brix as you want. You can easily go from a small media player to a big screen TV. Throw in an external audio jack, DVR functions, GPS and we have a wonder device - like for real.

The concept Samsung SS700 designed by Jin Woo Han takes the two great things about digital photography and simplifies them - quickly snapping pictures and showing them off. The slim profile is undercut by a large round barrel for easy gripping. There aren’t any buttons of menu settings to fuss with it. The camera does all the thinking for you. All you do is point and shoot. The screen is large and bright enough to act as a display and with a built-in kick stand, just set it on top of your side table for the family to enjoy.
The concept of alternate arrangement is how designer Timo Wong arrived at the design of CELLS. The design mimics the contours of a typical fruit tray. The number keys are not separated by straight lines, boxes or circles but by alternating contours on one single surface. Each number seems to be divided into one cell of its own.
